Hedgerow Maintenance in St. John

22 July 2023 @ 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

Maintaining our newly-planted hedgerow trees so they can grown to maturity

The National Trust have been working to restore over 30 miles of hedgerows by planting 60,000 hedging whips across the Island, with the aim to increase the connectivity between woodland habitats and restore depleted hedges, and provide safe nesting and travel for birds, insects and mammals.

To ensure these reach maturity and provide maximum benefits to wildlife, they now need to be maintained to stop them being swamped by bramble, bracken and weeds. We will be using sickles and loppers to clear the vegetation.

This event will continue over the next 3 Saturdays, starting Saturday 15th July at 09:30 at L’Auberge du Nord car park. From there, we will then drive a short distance to the fields in which we will be working, finishing around 12:30pm.

If you fancy grabbing a sickle or maybe just doing some weeding, then please do join us for this weekend task!
