Trades, Trains and Occupation – Spring Walking Festival

7 April 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Free
For many centuries the Gorey headland has been dominated by its imposing castle.

During the 1800’s and 1900’s the old port below and the adjoining Grouville beach took on new ‘lives’. First the fishing and shipbuilding industries boomed and then the Eastern Railway arrived along with the first tourists. But the 1900’s saw darker changes when the Gorey area became a focus of activity during the 1940 – 45 German Occupation. Evidence of all these changes and some stories of the period make these earlier times come alive on this scenic walk.
